Frequently Asked Questions

Where is your office located?

Our office is located wherever you are, as we are a virtual psychiatry practice! You can be seen in the comfort and privacy of your own home, car, or office as long as you have a strong internet connection and a phone, tablet, or computer.

What platform do you use for telehealth?

We use a platform called Doxy.me, which is a web-based teleconferencing platform that is secure and HIPPA compliant to ensure your privacy. The benefits of Doxy.me is that you don’t need to download or install any additional apps, simply log in at the provided link from any mobile phone, tablet or computer with a strong internet connection.

Do you take insurance?

Yes! We understand that cost can often be a barrier to accessing mental health care and so we work with both direct-pay and insured patients. Currently we are in network with Anthem, Blue Cross / Blue Shield, Cigna, Evernorth, United Healthcare, Optum and Carelon / Beacon Health.

How much will my visits cost?

This will vary depending on whether you have insurance, the specific insurance company, the type of insurance plan you have and whether or not you are doing medication management only or in combination with therapy. Since there are so many variables, it’s hard to provide a specific estimate. Please give us a call at (720) 715-8459 to discuss the particulars of your situation.

Will I have to go on medication?

It depends on your situation and needs. We provide a comprehensive initial evaluation and will give our honest opinion of what we think would be most helpful. Our philosophy is to prescribe the minimal dose and number of medications necessary for symptom relief. Sometimes all that is needed is reassurance from someone experienced in mental health and sometimes long-term medication is recommended to maintain stability and function.

Will medications change my personality or make me a different person?

There is a lot of stigma and disinformation out there about psychiatric care and medication treatment. If medication is recommended, we strive to have a full discussion with you about potential risks and common and uncommon side-effects so you can make informed decisions. Many psychiatric medications are quite benign with minimal or no discernable side-effects. Some might cause sedation or other cognitive side-effects, and some may cause metabolic or neurological side-effects. In all cases, you will be well informed of any potential side-effects as well as a rationale for a specific medication. We meet or exceed the standard of care for medication side-effect monitoring, to be sure to catch a potential problem before it gets out of hand. We also are available by secure messaging or phone outside of your regularly scheduled appointments should you experience an unexpected or intolerable side-effect.
